It’s been years since I’ve been to a black tie event. I’m attending my best friend’s wedding this coming weekend, and I’ve decided to go all out! After looking in my closet, realizing the few black tie dresses I own are black and from 20+ years ago, a new dress was in order. And not a black one!
Deciding to get a new dress gave me the idea to also get my hair and makeup done for the event! In thinking about it, I realized I hadn’t treated myself to something like this in 13 years (my brother’s wedding!) Note to self: Splurge more often.
In this post, I detail my plans for what I’ll wear and how I’ll do my hair and makeup!
Black Tie Dress
Color is everywhere in 2022. Bright yellow, orange, hot pink… you name it! The following are 2 dresses I narrowed my choices down to:
Chiara Boni La Petite Robe
Norma Kamali Fishtail Gown
The Norma Kamali gown is on pre-order so I wasn’t able to see it in person to decide on it. I ordered the pink Chiara Boni La Petite Robe online, hoping for the best. Wow. it’s more beautiful in person!
This picture was taken by the tailor when I dropped off the dress for hemming. The fabric is thick, stretchy and high quality. Can you believe there aren’t any zippers?
At tailor: We are hemming to just before touching floor line – with 3 inch heels.
Black Tie Shoes
Although I love a sexy strappy nude heel, I want to be comfortable at the event and I don’t want to trip. Maybe it’s just me, but my feet tend to wobble in strappy heels. And trying to dance with that type of heel? Not gonna happen. So, I’m wearing these classic Christian Louboutin nude heels I’ve had for several years.

Of my favorite up-do styles I found on Pinterest, I am shooting to get #2 done for the wedding. It’s hard to tell how the style will look on me, but we shall see!
Black Tie Make Up
All these women have the same style of makeup. Smoky eyes with natural coloring on face and soft pink lips. There is some serious contouring going on with the skin which is magical! Check out treephipat_makeup to see what I mean. I’m hoping the professional I hired for my hair and makeup can do something like this too. Amazing, the power of makeup!
